Alberta Clipper Turned Coastal Storm?

Yes, as it appears now a weak Alberta Clipper will head toward the Northeast and spark a coastal low off of Long Island. Granted, I prepared an updated snowfall projection map. The roads on Saturday morning will be very slippery while the snow tapers. High temperatures will be around 36 degrees.

Frontal System to Bring Snow Later Friday Night

Light/moderate snow will likely snarl the roads late Friday into Saturday. 1-3" of powdery snow is anticipated. There could be more snow if a coastal low develops off the coast, so close monitering will be required for this system.

SNOW WILL OVERSPREAD SOUTHWEST MASSACHUSETTS AND NORTHERN CONNECTICUT BETWEEN 5 AM AND 7 AM FRIDAY. THE SNOW SHOULD OVERSPREAD CENTRAL MASSACHUSETTS AND NORTHERN RHODE ISLAND BETWEEN 6 AM AND 8 AM... REACHING SOUTHEAST MASSACHUSETTS BETWEEN 8 AND 10 AM.
ONCE THE SNOW OVERSPREADS THE REGION... IT SHOULD QUICKLY BECOME MODERATE TO HEAVY REDUCING VISIBILITIES TO ONE HALF MILE OR LESS AT TIMES THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. SURFACE TEMPERATURES BELOW FREEZING SHOULD ALLOW FOR THE SNOW TO QUICKLY ACCUMULATE ON UNTREATED ROADWAYS...MAKING FOR HAZARDOUS TRAVEL. Many snow lovers, including me, will be very happy when they wake up on Saturday. Heavy snow will fall late on Friday and into Saturday. My forecast of 4-8" of powder has not changed since early this week!

The roads are treacherous out there...the freezing rain is falling with a very cold surface temperature of 29 degrees...as expected, it will continue THROUGH the morning commute.

A 90-Minute Delay was a VERY DANGEROUS decision. Many towns, including New Britain, have no school because they have cautious, winter weather-oriented, superintendents. PLEASE - ITS ICY, DO NOT GO OUT OR BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL - THERE IS HEAVY FREEZING RAIN EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH THE MIDDLE MORNING!

• A major storm is currently tracking up through the eastern half of the United States, and it is running into cold, low-level air that is stubborn to budge. The precipitation will begin between 5PM and 7PM, delivering snow. The snow will fall at rates of over 1" per hour at times.
  
• Total Snow: 2-5"
  
• After midnight, the snow will mix with sleet and then change to freezing rain. This will continue for a prolonged period of time, likely into the morning commute.
• Total Ice: .25-.75"
  
• The precipitation will change to plain rain in the early-middle morning. In the afternoon, indications show that the rain will fall at EXCESSIVE rates. By Thursday morning, a dangerous amount of runoff will be occurring. Keep in mind, only 2" of rain usually causes Bristol's rivers & streams to burst over their banks...

ALERT: Snowy Weekend + Whiteout Conditions

The temperature has dropped to 32.9 degrees and the roads on Chippens Hill and Nelson Farm are getting coated up - as expected. There is snow falling outside, but it should lighten as the afternoon wears on. By Sunday, more extremely heavy snow squalls will move through. Those alone could leave a small accumulation. Stick with Precision-Plus First Alert, as no T.V. weatherman has mentioned accumulating snow for today. Enjoy the white weekend!

There is the chance for a moderate-sized snowstorm in northern New England on Saturday. Here in Bristol, there will likely be some passing rain showers. Further updates will show whether any snow mixes in with the passing rain showers during Saturday afternoon.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY: This advisory is for the north central Connecticut counties of Hartford, Tolland and Windham. Rain tonight will gradually transition to freezing rain just after midnight, possibly glazing much of the area with one quarter inch of ice before changing to sleet by 4 am and to snow between 5 am and 7 am. Travel will likely be treacherous during the Thursday morning commute, especially higher terrain both to the east and west of hartford and along interstate 84. Scattered thunderstorms are possible near midnight, with isolated power outages possible either from lightning strikes or glaze taking down a few tree limbs. Intermittent light snow is anticipated during the Thursday morning daylight hours Thursday with a small accumulation of snow likely. Some melting of the snow and ice is expected midday Thursday as precipitation tends to quit. ALERT: Rain Will Change to Freezing Rain and Snow

Although there will be heavy rain through the day on Wednesday, a shot of cold air will begin to work in overnight. Around midnight, the precipitation will change to freezing rain mixed with snow at times. By the morning commute, you can expect some, at times, heavy freezing rain. A significant ice accumulation is possible. Unlike other storms, this storm will change to frozen precipitation at the END. The chance of a school interuption is 75%. There will be updates as conditions warrant.
